Red Letter Racing are excited to be able to utilise the training services of astute Brisbane trainer, Michael Lakey. Michael has worked with horses from the age of 14. In his late teens Michael had a successful career as a jockey until an opportunity to ride track-work at the legendary Lindsay Park under Hall Of Fame trainer, Mr Colin Hayes was too good to refuse. In his years at Lindsay Park, Michael helped to put the polish on the seemingly endless amount of champion racehorse's that Mr Colin Hayes had at any time. Eventually, family ties bought Michael back to Brisbane where he took out his trainer's licence in 1999.

An unassuming and very humble man, Michael is very highly respected in the Brisbane training ranks as he always seems to be able to have the horses to contest the bigger races from a seemingly small stable. Michael employs a reliable team and takes a hands-on approach to his training including riding the horses in key pieces of work. Horses under Michael's care make regular trips to nearby Nudgee Beach which is particular good for horses who might be susceptible to joint ailments or prefer easier footing underneath them. Michael makes regular trips to various stud farms around the country and will be assisting in Red Letter Racing's yearling selection process and the tutelage under Colin Hayes has given Michael invaluable experience that all Red Letter Racing horses will derive benefit from. Red Letter Racing are excited to be able to offer owners the expertise of one of the industry's real horsemen with a habit of winning races.
